Immigration and a Jesuit Priest in El Paso: Father Rafael Garcia
Father Rafael Garcia fled from Fidel Castro's Cuba with his family when he was just nine years old and settled in Miami. He was pursuing a career in architecture and feeling fulfilled. However, when a major architecture project was postponed, Fr. Garcia unexpectedly had the time to take a long-desired pilgrimage to the Holy Land. While there, he felt a call to the priesthood that marked his life. Father Garcia now serves at the Sacred Heart Church in Segundo Barrio in El Paso, just a stone's throw from the border with Mexico. Andrew Wong grew up in Las Cruces with his 6 brothers and sisters. After graduating from NMSU with a degree in civil engineering, he spent 5 months in Indonesia working with a team doing water and wastewater projects in undeveloped villages and trying to share the love and good news of Jesus.
Andrew and his wife Charissa have lived in El Paso for 8 years and have four kids with foster care and adoption being a part of their family story.
Andrew has worked as an engineer for over 10 years primarily on public infrastructure such as streets, highways, waterlines, sewer lines, and drainage infrastructure. He has a passion for designing sustainable cities that are efficient, livable, and beautiful.

Today's distinguished guest is a renowned Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. A household name in El Paso, he proudly graduated from Burgess High School in 1967. He went on to earn his degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M, class of 1975.
With an impressive 50 years of experience under his belt, he has since retired. Among his notable achievements is his role as co-founder of the Animal Hall of Fame.
